Pi Day Devotion

I happened to see this post on the Yahoo page about Pi Day. If you haven’t seen Pi and enjoy small, independent films, this is a wonderful film about many things, but, to me, about the necessity to see and appreciate the whole world (big picture) rather than focus on minute details that can paralyze someone in making decisions and ‘moving on.’ I guess, wide lens versus long lens living.

I find that many homebuyers do the right thing in researching and trying to understand the mortgage (pre-approval and actual loan) process. And don’t get me wrong: knowing the details about your loan is critical. As I mentioned in a recent post, though, much of the information–the terms, language, and numbers–seem to be a foreign language. So I understand our need to read just a little more with the hopes that each detail and bit of information will all come together. Research and understanding, though, can lead to a certain obsession and paralysis of decision making.  It’s important to do the research, but I think it is equally as important to say “stop!” and then say, “OK, let’s now go look for a home and talk to someone about our loan.”

There are a few suggestions that I would offer.  First, breathe…… Yes, you are somewhat anxiety-filled and nervous and really really excited, but breathing, in my book, is a good thing. Seriously, let you guide yourself. In general, I think that we all know when we start to get that overloaded feeling, and so when you get to that point, just stop the research and make your commitment to meet with professionals to discuss your goals. Also, after you have spoken with others (and don’t allow yourself to talk to person after person after person), that may be a good time to refer back to any of the research that you did. In the end, your heart and your mind will balance and guide you correctly.

Ironically, all I can remember from high school is 3.14, the first three numbers of Pi (and I have no idea if the sign exists on my keyboard).  So perhaps a short memory is a good thing. Otherwise I would go on and on and on…….
